Plan for Palestine.
When the representatives of the Arabs and the Jews failed to reach agreement at the recent Palestine conferences in London, the British Government determined to formulate a policy themselves. That they have now done, and the details of their scheme were recently published. It is no part of British policy that Palestine
It aims shall become either a wholly Jewish or wholly .rab State. at the establishment, within a period of ten years, of an in- dependent Palestine State in which Arabs and Jews share authority, When peaceful and secure the essential interests of both peoples. relations between the two races have been restored, Mandatory
control will be completely relinquished.
Adequate
British heads of Departments will be gradually removed, and their places taken by Arabs and Jews, who will also be given seats on the Executive Council. At the end of five years from the establishment of peace and order, a body representative of the Palestinian peoples and the British Government will review the working of these arrangements and make recommendations for the constitution of the proposed independent Palestine State. provision must, of course, be made for the protection of the three Faiths in Palestine, for the special position of the Jewish National Home, and for the strategic requirements of the British Empire. For five years Jewish immigration will be permitted at the rate of 10,000 a year, and in addition 25,000 refugees will be admitted
The sale of land by Arabs to if provision can be made for them. Jews, which in the past has been responsible for much bitter feeling, will be restricted, or in some areas prohibited.
